Prohibition against Termination

An employer shall not terminate the services of an employee on any of the following grounds:

1. Trade union membership or participation in trade union activities outside working hours or, with the consent of the employer, within working hours.

2. Seeking office as, or acting as the capacity of, an employee representative.

3. Making a complaint or participating in proceedings against an employer involving an alleged violation of laws and regulation.

4. Race, colour, sex, marital status, pregnancy, religion, political opinion, nationality or social origin.

5. Reasonable absence from work due to family emergencies or responsibilities.

6. Absence from work during maternity leave as certified by a medical practitioner.

7. Absence from work due to injury or illness provided that the employee submits a medical certificate to his employer by the third day of absence.

8. Absence from work in the performance of jury service as required by law.

JOB VACANCY

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the post of Manager – Engineering and Maintenance

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Manager, Engineering and Maintenance is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all the Port’s facilities and equipment, organizing all the maintenance operations, managing the staff and the acquisition of major equipment in accordance with the Port’s policy.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

v Develops and implements effective maintenance schedules and procedures for the preventative and restorative maintenance of facilities and equipment owned by the Port Authority.

v Prepare the Annual Budget and Work plan for the Department.

v Ensure the adequate material and spare parts are sourced and kept to ensure the best upkeep of the Port’s equipment.

v Advises on technical requirements for the effective and efficient maintenance and upkeep of Port facilities and equipment.

v Advises on new equipment selection and on retiring of old equipment.

v Implement industry best practices for the improvement of the maintenance activities of the Port Authority.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPEIRENCE

· A Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from a recognized institution.

· At least five years experience working in the maintenance field.

· At least three (3) years experience performing in a managerial capacity.

· A Masters degree (MBA or MSc). in Engineering or Professional certification in Maintenance Management and experience working at the Port Authority will be an asset.
