Position Title: Backup Medical Provider (BUMP)
Hours: Intermittent contract: Not to exceed 240 hours, or 30 days of work per year
Daily Rate: EC$771.03/day

Position Summary
Peace Corps Eastern Caribbean is seeking a qualified medical provider (physician or nurse practitioner) to serve as an on-call Backup Medical Provider in St. Vincent. The Backup Provider will provide clinical care for Peace Corps Volunteers and Trainees in the absence of the Peace Corps Medical Officer (PCMO) or assist the PCMO during busy times of the year. The Backup Medical Provider will provide direct patient care, make referrals to external medical consultants or facilities, and assist with administrative duties and health education when indicated. When on call, the backup provider will be available by telephone and/or be present at the Peace Corps Eastern Caribbean office in St. Vincent.
Work Schedule: Work is intermittent and to be compensated at a fixed daily rate. Work may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. This contract is for up to 30 contracted days.
Peace Corps may select one or more BUMP PSCs from the applications received in response to this announcement or may decide not to fill any PSC positions depending on funding and continued need.
Responsibilities

Provide high‐quality care to Peace Corps Trainees and Volunteers including treatment of common illnesses and injuries in accordance with Peace Corps medical policies.

Perform emergency medical situations.

The backup provider will provide direct patient care, referrals to outside medical consultants or facilities, i.e. hospital or emergency department, depending on the specific situation, and assist with administrative duties and health education when indicated.

The backup provider will function as a PCMO and perform any or all duties of the PCMO. At the backup provider’s discretion, the backup provider shall be available around‐the‐clock by telephone or in person in the Health Unit on those contracted days.

The backup provider is expected to consult medically unstable Volunteers as soon as possible, even if the backup provider must travel to them.

The backup provider is expected to support Trainees and Volunteers located in remote areas 24/7 when required for contracted days.

The backup provider is expected to maintain complete and accurate medical information and clinical resources in the Peace Corps Health Unit.

The backup provider is expected to participate in weekly Medical Drills and any Emergency Drills at the request of the Country Director.

The backup provider is expected to prepare written documentation that describes the consultation with a Trainee or Volunteer, care and treatment prescribed/provided. This must be documented in the health record.
Minimum Qualifications

Resident of St. Vincent and familiar with the cultures, communities and geography of St. Vincent and the Eastern Caribbean.

Hold a driver’s license and be willing to drive regularly.

Qualified Medical Doctor or Nurse Practitioner.

Graduate of an accredited medical or nursing school. (Doctors must be a graduate of a school listed in https://search.wdoms.org/).

Current license to practice.

A minimum of five years of unsupervised clinical experience.

Ability to communicate effectively in oral/written English.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

A citizen of the OECS or has current, valid authorization to work in St. Vincent & the Grenadines. This should be stated in the cover letter.

Ability to pass a US Embassy security background check.
