NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the post of Network Administrator.

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

 

The Network Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the company’s network infrastructure. The role includes tasks such as configuring, installing, and troubleshooting network hardware and software, including servers, routers, switches, and other network devices. The Network Administrator is also responsible for monitoring network performance. Additionally, the Network Administrator supports the design and implementation of network policies and procedures. They may also be involved in designing and implementing network infrastructure upgrades and expansions.

 

 

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

  • Install, configure and maintain network hardware and software including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, IDS, IPS and NDR systems.

  • Manage and monitor LAN/WAN infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and availability.

  • Perform regular maintenance, including system updates, backups, and patch management.

  • Configure and maintain VPNs ensuring secure remote access for authorised personnel.

  • Develop and implement network security policies and procedures.

  • Monitor network performance, identify and address performance issues.

  • Conduct regular network assessments, including security audits and vulnerability assessments.

  • Maintain detailed network documentation including configurations, diagrams and inventory.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues and provide technical support to staff.

  • Stay abreast with latest network technologies and industry trends and provide recommendations for improvements.

  • Collaborate with IT staff on network-related issues and best practices.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Professional certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Engineer (CCNA), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), CompTIA Network+, Security+, or similar.

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an IT or related field.

  • At least one (1) year experience as a supervisor or in a leadership role.

  • At least three (3) years’ experience within the logistics, transportation, marine facility sector, or trade/port industry is preferred.

 

 

 

CORE COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

 

 

  • Good interpersonal, communication and working knowledge of theory and practical networking.

  • Strong knowledge of network infrastructure and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).

  • Strong knowledge of network hardware and software troubleshooting.

  • Experience with networking equipment (e.g. Avaya/Cisco, PBX Systems).

  • Experience with wireless networks and related technologies.

  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, NSE 4, CompTIA Network+, Security+ are highly desirable.
