SENIOR ACCOUNTS CLERK

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the post of Senior Accounts Clerk.

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

 

The Senior Accounts Clerk is responsible for overseeing the accounts payable functions. This entails managing the process of recording and processing payments to vendors, suppliers, and other creditors. Specifically, the Senior Accounts Clerk is tasked with verifying invoices, reconciling accounts, and ensuring that payments are made accurately and in a timely manner.

 

 

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

  • Oversee the accounts payable process by verifying accuracy of invoices, prepare and process varying payment runs, ensure all payments are made accurately and maintain accurate and organized payable records.

  • Reconcile accounts payable transactions and vendor statements, resolve discrepancies observed and ensure that all payments and credits are applied correctly.

  • Perform monthly closing activities related to accounts payable, including preparing reports and schedules.

  • Maintain updated vendor files and communicate with vendors and suppliers to address any payment-related queries.

  • Assist in preparing financial reports related to accounts payables.

  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures and regulations, and provide information and support during audit and internal reviews.

  • Provide guidance and support to junior accounts payable staff and assist in the training of new team members on accounts payable processes and systems.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

 

  • Associate Degree in Accounting & Finance, or ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 2).

  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in finance or a related field.

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a supervisor, demonstrating adept leadership skills in overseeing teams and driving operational success.

  • Experience within the logistics, transportation, marine facility sector, or trade/port industry is preferred.

 

 

 

CORE COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

 

 

  • Good management skills, and very good organisational, interpersonal, communication, problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Knowledge of computer and relevant software applications (spreadsheets, etc.).

  • Knowledge of relevant accounting and auditing programs and procedures – Micropay, OMNI/ACPAC, etc.

  • Ability to use initiative, work independently or in a team, pay attention to details, be well organised, exercise good judgment, integrity, and discretion when handling confidential information.
